The Korean car brand SsangYong has been present on the Russian market for a long time, where it has managed to securely gain a foothold in the SUV class, offering the domestic consumer “more car”, a large number of options, and all this at a relatively low price.

In 2015, after a little reflection, the management of the auto concern decided to bring its Tivoli model to the “crowded” market of compact crossovers, to put it mildly, the development of which took about 3.5 years and spent over 320 million dollars. It should be noted right away that the Korean company will have to fight with such class giants as Nissan Juke, Mitsubishi ASX, Peugeot 2008 and even KIA Soul, which can be called a crossover at a stretch.

The designers and designers of SsangYong faced a daunting task. They needed to make a completely new car that could generate emotional impulses in buyers to buy a car. Running a little ahead, I would like to note that the company was able to create a truly original and unlike competitors crossover, offering good equipment and very high-torque motors, but will this be enough for a domestic buyer to start voting for Tivoli with a ruble? We will find out only after some time, when the company will announce the results of car sales, but for now we will continue our acquaintance with the new product.

The appearance of the new SsangYong Tivoli

The new SsangYong Tivoli inherited its name from a small village near Rome, famous for its magnificent landscapes and architectural monuments. And here the Korean car did not disappoint - it also has an unusual, somewhat controversial and memorable appearance. The crossover's exterior was inspired by the XIV-Adventure and XIV-Air concepts presented in 2014. Of course, the production model has become much more modest and down-to-earth, but was able to retain the overall style and key features of the concept cars.

Tivoli is a rather stocky and "knocked down" car with a slightly extended "muzzle", a flat roof line, connected to the aft part of the body by massive rear struts. The front of the crossover sports a fashionable head optics with LEDs, a narrow radiator grille strip with a centrally located brand emblem, as well as a stylish bumper with integrated foglights along the edges.

The hood of the car, as well as its side doors, have pronounced stampings, giving the crossover dynamism and aggressiveness. A distinctive feature of the model can be called the black-painted front pillars, which merge with the windshield, create the effect of a "flying" roof. This solution looks stylish, fresh and effective. The rear of the car has a more modest design, the complex shape of the taillights, smoothly flowing into the fenders, only catches the eye.

Note that SsangYong Tivoli is the smallest crossover in the lineup of the Korean brand with the following overall characteristics:

  • Length - 4195 mm;
  • Width - 1795 mm;
  • Height - 1590 mm.

In general, the Tivoli model looks stylish, unusual and memorable, which favorably distinguishes it from the competition. Yes, a car can cause controversial feelings for someone, but let's remember the appearance of the Nissan Juke, which became its highlight and literally immediately made it a leader in the class.

The interior of the crossover

Once in the salon of the new Tivoli, you catch yourself thinking that the architecture of the front panel looks very familiar, and indeed, looking a little closer, you begin to notice a similarity to the interior of the restyled Actyon, although it looks more stylish and modern at Tivoli. The car offers a stylish center console, in the center of which can optionally be located a 7-inch multimedia system screen, a new dashboard and steering wheel with the ability to control the audio system and on-board computer.

A distinctive feature can be considered the ability to personalize the instrument panel, which can be highlighted with one of 6 preset color schemes. The interior uses hard plastic, on top of which a special "soft" coating is applied.

The Koreans claim that the Tivoli has the most spacious cabin in the class (wheelbase is 2600 mm), which can easily accommodate 5 passengers. The rear seat backrests can be tilted and folded in a 40/60 ratio, thus creating a flat floor and significantly increasing the trunk. By the way, the trunk volume in the classic version is noticeably larger than that of the Juke and amounts to 423 liters.

In addition to the trunk, the Tivoli cabin has a large number of small niches and pockets for small luggage, there is a kidney holder, and even a 10-inch tablet can easily fit into the armrest, thanks to a special slot.

The driver's seat is characterized by a high, bus landing, which, together with a large windshield, provides excellent visibility, which will certainly be appreciated by "young" drivers.

The car interior is distinguished by good ergonomics, which can already compete with the "Germans", but a large number of glossy inserts and materials of not the highest quality spoil the picture a little. However, even in this form, the interior of the Tivoli brought the interior of the crossover as close as possible to the class leaders.

Specifications SsangYong Tivoli 2016

The Tivoli is built on a completely new SsangYong platform featuring a transverse engine. The classic MacPherson struts are installed in front, and a torsion beam at the back (in the all-wheel drive version - a multi-link). The car is offered as a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive modification, which is not yet available for Russian buyers.

The crossover can be driven by 1.6-liter diesel or gasoline engines, the power of which is 150 and 126 hp. respectively. In the future, the emergence of a flagship 205-horsepower gasoline unit is expected, capable of delivering 280 Nm of torque. The engines are paired with a 6-level "mechanics" or 6-band "robot", which significantly increases the cost of the crossover.

Regardless of the level of equipment, the car is equipped with proprietary technology "Smart Steer" with several modes of operation of the electric amplifier - "Normal", "Comfort" and "Sport", which in fact are not much different from each other.

SsangYong Tivoli has good geometric cross-country ability, which allows the crossover to confidently conquer small off-road terrain and confidently move on country roads. Although the ground clearance is inferior to its main opponent in the person of Nissan Juke, it allows you to overcome even high curbs.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 is not officially announced, but given the weight and power of the power plant, we should expect indicators within 10-12 seconds. The manufacturer emphasizes that the engines comply with the Euro-6 standard and are highly efficient. Fuel consumption in the urban cycle is about 9 liters, in mixed mode - just over 8 l / 100 km.

Despite the fact that Tivoli motors do not allow you to "reckless", with measured driving there are no complaints about them - there is enough power for confident driving in city traffic and overtaking on a suburban highway. However, it should be noted that despite the excellent behavior of the suspension on serious irregularities, the car gives in somewhat to minor irregularities in the road surface, which manifests itself in excessive body swing.

Safety

SsangYong Tivoli rightfully deserves the title of the safest car in its segment. Already in the basic equipment, the car is equipped with 7 airbags, including even a separate knee airbag for the passenger and driver.

The machine is equipped with a multi-mode stability system, an anti-rollover system, an emergency brake assist function and a downhill start. Not without an intrusive, but extremely important and necessary system of reminder of unfastened seat belts.

The manufacturer emphasizes that the load-bearing body of the novelty is 71% made of heavy-duty steel, which increases the rigidity of the body and provides additional protection for people in the crossover's cabin.

It is impossible not to mention the results of the Euro NCAP crash tests, where Tivoli received a full 4 stars - one of the highest rates in the segment of urban crossovers.

Configuration and prices SsangYong Tivoli 2016.

Currently, sales of the new SsangYong Tivoli have started in the domestic market of the Korean brand, where its price starts at $ 14.8 thousand for the basic configuration and reaches $ 21.5 thousand for the maximum equipment level. Earlier it was reported that the car will enter the Russian market closer to the summer of 2016, however, due to the unstable economic situation, the start of sales may be somewhat postponed. At the same time, no terms are named.

It also remains a mystery how many trim levels SsangYong will roll out to the domestic market. It is only known that in the basic equipment the crossover will receive:

  • 7 airbags;
  • electric power steering;
  • two-zone climate control;
  • multimedia system with LCD;
  • rear view camera;
  • heated seats;
  • support for Bluetooth and AUX protocol.

It will be possible to obtain more accurate information on the level of equipment only after the car is officially presented in Russia.

I would like to sum up the new SsangYong Tivoli in the words of the Koreans themselves, who describe the design of the novelty in the following words: “The volume created by nature” is dynamic, noble and unusual. At the same time, the car received a nice and well-assembled interior, excellent ergonomics of the driver's workplace, a spacious interior and a good level of equipment, which is indispensable in the battle with serious and more eminent competitors.
