Products of the premium brand Infiniti, owned by the Japanese corporation Nissan Motor, have always been distinguished by their original appearance, the highest level of comfort and advanced technological solutions. The flagship Infiniti QX56 SUV was no exception, the third and last generation of which was presented in 2010 during the New York Auto Show.

In 2013, during the total rebranding of the company's lineup, the car was renamed QX80, while retaining the main stylistic solutions, as well as the technical component of its predecessor.

In 2014, the SUV underwent a facelift, and also received improved trim materials, a wider list of standard and optional equipment, which made the car even more interesting in terms of value for money.

The main competitors of the new generation Infiniti QX80 2017 and 2018 are such models as: Cadillac Escalade, Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol and Mercedes GLS-class, each of which has a powerful filling, spacious and comfortable interior, as well as good off-road qualities. Therefore, let's try to figure out what kind of "weapon" Japanese engineers and marketers have prepared in the fight for the wallets of potential buyers.

Exterior Infiniti QX80

The appearance of the new generation Infiniti QX80 2017 SUV inspires respect and slight tremors in the knees even when the car is stationary. Infiniti designers managed to create at the same time a brutal, effective and harmonious appearance, which is extremely rare in such large SUVs.

The front of the car received a saber-shaped head optics, a huge false radiator grille with a large brand emblem in the center, as well as a muscular front bumper, into which LED running lights, fog lights and a trapezoidal air intake are neatly inscribed.

When viewed in profile, the car attracts attention with large wheel arches and equally large wheels on light-alloy wheels, spectacular air ducts and a huge glazing area. Compared to its predecessor, the side mirrors have got a stylish chrome finish, as well as LED turn signals.

The stern of the car has practically not changed and is represented by a huge fifth door, large side lights, as well as a massive rear bumper, the upper part of which has received a special chrome strip designed to protect the paintwork from damage when unloading or loading luggage.

Overall characteristics of the SUV:

  • Length - 5.290 m;
  • Width - 2,010 m;
  • Height - 1.925 m;
  • Wheelbase length is an impressive 3,075 m.

The ground clearance of the SUV is 257 mm, which allows you to cross railway tracks and curbs without looking, as well as to move as comfortably as possible even on serious off-road conditions.

The new generation Infiniti QX80 has received several new body colors, including Hermosa Blue, Graphite Shadow and Majestic White, bringing the total number of color variations to 7.

Interior of the flagship QX80

The interior design of the cabin looks presentable and functional, despite the fact that the architecture of the front panel is slightly outdated against the background of its closest competitors. The rest of the SUV's interior does not cause any complaints - only premium materials are used here, the quality and fit of which fully corresponds to the price and class of the car.

As before, the Infiniti QX80 can be equipped with 7 or 8-seater salons, and there is enough free space even in the third row of seats. The driver's workplace is distinguished by excellent ergonomics and thoughtfulness, therefore, even when driving an SUV for the first time, the driver will not feel any discomfort. The instrument panel is laconic and as informative as possible, and the large steering wheel allows you to control the main systems of the car. The central torpedo is conventionally divided into three zones. The first houses the climate control unit, the second houses the audio system, and the third houses the large 8-inch screen of the infotainment system.

The front seats are associated with large home chairs - they can easily fit a person of any size, but lateral support could be better.

The second row of seats can be represented either by two free-standing armchairs, between which there is a massive curbstone, or by a three-seater sofa. Free space here is "with a margin", so that even a tall person can easily throw one leg over the other. The third row of seats can accommodate three riders, but only two adult passengers can sit as comfortably as possible.

The luggage compartment volume in the basic position is 470 liters, while the backrests of the second and third rows can be folded, which will allow you to get from 1,400 to 2,690 liters of loading space. Separately, it should be noted that the lowered seats form an almost perfectly flat surface, which makes the transportation of cargo as comfortable as possible.

2017 Infiniti QX80 Specifications

Under the hood of the Infiniti QX80, a powerful 5.6-liter V8 engine was registered, equipped with a direct injection system, a 32-valve timing and a proprietary VVEL system that allows you to change the level of valve lift. The engine develops a maximum 405 "horses" and an impressive 560 Nm of rotational thrust, transmitted to all four wheels. The engine is paired with a modern 7-band automatic transmission with manual gear shifting. The transmission allows you to choose one of three operating modes: Auto, 4H and 4L, which allows you to move comfortably on almost any road surface. True, due to the impressive size, the geometric cross-country ability of the car is at an average level.

The dynamic characteristics of the SUV are at the proper level: acceleration from 0 to 100 takes 6.5 seconds, and the maximum speed reaches 210 km / h. On average, a 405-horsepower "heart" of a car consumes 14.5 l / 100 km, while in the city, as shown by a test drive, the fuel consumption of the Infiniti QX80 can easily exceed the mark of 20 l / 100 km.

The off-road QX80 is based on the Nissan Patrol trolley, in which the frame is integrated into the power frame and is endowed with special crumple zones. The front and rear suspension of the car is independent, and is represented by a two-link and a multi-link, respectively. Disc brakes are installed on all wheels, and the steering is represented by a hydraulic booster.

Infiniti QX80 safety

The engineers who created the Infiniti QX80 paid special attention to the level of car safety, equipping it with a wide range of basic and optional equipment responsible for the active and passive safety of passengers:
