The Shanghai Auto Show annually presents its visitors with countless premieres from both world-renowned and small Chinese car manufacturers. And the 2017 exhibition was no exception - it was here that the Chinese automaker Chery officially presented the second generation of the Tiggo 5 compact crossover, which received an updated and extremely stylish appearance that could cause real panic among competitors.
Moreover, the crossover received an improved interior design, where high-quality, close to premium materials were registered, as well as a noticeably matured list of basic and optional equipment.
In comparison with its predecessor, the car slightly reduced in size, which was done intentionally, so that the car does not compete with the older and, accordingly, larger Tiggo 7 model.
Running a little ahead, we note that the latest generation of Chery Tiggo 5 is not perceived as a budget Chinese car and is quite capable of competing with the already eminent Korean and Japanese classmates.
The main competitors of the model are Renault Kaptur, Haval H6 and Renault Kaptur.
Appearance of the new Cherie Tiggo 5
According to the company's management, James Hole, who came to the company from General Motors, was responsible for the design of the new Chery Tiggo 5 2017. Someone will like the appearance of the novelty, while someone may raise a number of questions, but the car will definitely not leave anyone indifferent, so we can assume that Hole coped with the task set before him.
The new body of the Cherie Tiggo 5 pleases the eye with its muscular structure and an abundance of original elements, including huge head optics with spectacular sections of LED running lights, a large false radiator grille, trapezoidal shape, powerful front and rear bumpers, as well as undulating protrusions on the side doors.
Separately, it is worth highlighting the presence of originally designed foglights and a rear diffuser stylized as supercars.
The crossover profile looks solid and impressive, which is facilitated by massive wheel arches, large doors and 18-inch alloy wheels. The stern of the crossover vaguely resembles that of the KIA Sportage and boasts a large and accordingly convenient tailgate for loading / unloading luggage, LED marker lights and a small spoiler.
The car has the following dimensions:

- Distance between front and rear axle - 2.63 m
The ride height is 19 cm, which is in line with most competitors and will be enough for the vast majority of potential buyers. By the way, the latter will be able to choose one of eight body colors and one of several design options for rims.
Salon of the updated Tiggo 5
The interior design of the salon is perhaps the most stylish, functional and high-quality among all the currently produced models of the company. The laconic and stylish front dashboard can optionally be covered with Alcantara or eco-leather (different colors are available) and supplemented with decorative inserts for carbon, which is the first time in this class and in this price category.
In front of the driver is a neat three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a digital dashboard, with an "amateur" design. In the central part of the dashboard there is an 8-inch multi-touch display of the multimedia information complex, and right below it there are neat "lambs" for controlling the cabin climate.
The front seats boast a comfortable seat, well-felt lateral support and a lot of adjustments (optionally electric), so that a person of any size will be comfortable here. Between the seats is a small armrest, which traditionally houses a box for all sorts of small things.
The sofa in the second row of seats can accommodate three adult passengers, and thanks to the correct layout, there is enough free space in all directions.
The volume of the trunk, according to preliminary information, will be the familiar 420 liters, and it can be increased almost threefold by lowering the backs of the rear sofa. The lack of hooks and pockets in the trunk is somewhat upsetting, but the presence of lighting and trunk trim partially neutralizes this drawback. In the trunk underground there was a place for a stowaway and a repair kit.
The quality of the materials, as well as their fit, is in no way inferior to Korean and even some German classmates, which deserves special respect, because until recently Chinese manufacturers could not even come close to not only European, but also Korean competitors.
Technical characteristics of the crossover Chery Tiggo 5 2017
The novelty is based on the platform of its predecessor that has survived the modernization and assumes the presence of independent suspension, represented by traditional MacPherson struts on the front and powerful wishbones on the rear axle.
The crossover will be driven by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine developing 148 "horses" and 205 Nm of torque. A pair of such an engine will be a new 5-level manual transmission or a 7-level stepped variator.
A preliminary test drive of the Chery Tiggo 5 showed that it takes a little more than 13 seconds for the car to accelerate from 0 to 100, while the crossover is capable of reaching a maximum of 175 km / h. Compared to its predecessor, the car has become more economical. So, on average, fuel consumption is 8.5 liters, while the previous generation consumed just over 9.5 l / 100 km.
Unfortunately, the car will be offered exclusively with front-wheel drive, however, it is likely that the model will receive an optional all-wheel drive especially for the Russian market.
The steering sports an electric booster, and front and rear disc brakes are responsible for braking, supplemented by electronic assistants ABS, ASR, DTC and others.

Gone are the days when the products of the Chinese car industry were incompatible with the concept of safety, which is once again proved by our Chery Tiggo 5 review. So, the monitored crossover boasts the following systems and equipment:

Sales of the new Chery Tiggo 5 will initially start in the Middle Kingdom in the third quarter of 2017 at a price of 90,000 yuan (about 12.9 thousand dollars), while the maximum price of Chery Tiggo 5 new equipment easily exceeds the mark of 18 thousand dollars.
It is assumed that the novelty will be presented in 3 filling options: "Standard", "Comfort" and "Lux", and the basic equipment will include:

The new Chery Tiggo 5 is a clear confirmation that in the near future the products of Chinese automakers will in no way be inferior not only to Korean and Japanese, but also to the best German counterparts. The crossover pleases with a primitive and bold exterior, a high-quality and well-thought-out interior, as well as technical equipment that is simply impressive for its money, most of which is offered exclusively in cars, the price of which is 20-30% higher.
The lack of all-wheel drive is somewhat upsetting, but even without it, the crossover capabilities will be "behind the eyes" of most buyers.
In Russia, the novelty promises to appear in the first half of 2018, but the exact price of the car on the domestic market is still unknown, but it is unlikely that it will significantly exceed the price of the Tiggo currently presented in the Russian Federation.
