The compact city car segment is growing inexorably, making the choice of potential consumers even more difficult than it was a few years ago. Following Korean, Japanese and German competitors, Seat also pulled up, unveiling an updated version of its Ibiza compact hatchback last spring.

It is worth mentioning right away that there is no question of a full-fledged generational change - the Spaniards made a slight facelift of the model's appearance, making the machine more modern, stylish and, as it seemed to us, more youthful. However, do not be upset, all significant changes have affected the interior and technical characteristics of the hatchback. It is still a compact, reliable and unpretentious car that retains the sporty character and enthusiasm of Seat, which is a trademark of all cars of the Spanish brand.

The appearance of the updated Seat Ibiza

The exterior of the restyled Seat Ibiza has undergone relatively minor changes, retaining the basic idea and proportions of its predecessor. To be precise, the main changes were made to the "muzzle" of the car, which received a slightly different pattern of the headlight lighting technology, as well as a slightly more massive front bumper, into which new fog lights with LEDs are mounted. The profile of the car remained the same - Seat designers only updated the design of the rims, making them more modern.

Purely cosmetic changes also affected the rear of the hatchback, in particular, the Spaniards slightly corrected the rear lighting technology, which somewhat refreshed the appearance of the car.

Seat representatives emphasized that in comparison with its predecessor, which was distinguished by the mediocre quality of the body panels, the new product used better and more expensive components, which is noticeable even to the naked eye.

Note that despite the fact that the car has not received any special changes in its appearance for 7 years, it still continues to carry the title of one of the most striking, stylish and attractive cars in its class.

The overall parameters of the Seat Ibiza remained unchanged:

  • Length - 4052 mm (hatchback), 4227 mm (station wagon) and 4034 (coupe);
  • Width - 1693 mm;
  • Height - 1445 mm for the hatchback and station wagon and 1428 mm for the coupe.

The car boasts a wheelbase of 2469 mm, which is very good for the class of compact urban hatchbacks in which the model performs.

In addition to a number of minor changes to the exterior, the car has acquired several new body colors, including the Moonston and Chilli.

Salon of the updated Ibiza

If we draw a parallel with its predecessor, the interior of the updated Seat Ibiza has been pleasantly transformed. Spanish designers have somewhat rethought the appearance of the front console, making it more comfortable and ergonomic for the driver, which allows for a high level of comfort even when driving a car over long distances.

The strict gray design of the front console, which has become classic for Seat cars, is somewhat diluted with various stylistic elements that can be made in different colors. Separately, we will highlight the appearance of a small, but touchscreen display of a multimedia system that is able to be friends with various modern gadgets and supported playback of multimedia files via Bluetooth or from a USB drive. The car has received a slightly modified multifunctional steering wheel, gear knob and air deflectors.

The front seats provide a comfortable fit and securely fix the driver in the lumbar region, providing excellent lateral support even in the case of high-speed cornering. Considering the cost of the car, the front seats cannot boast of the presence of electric adjustments, however, this should not be considered a significant drawback, especially when you consider that manual adjustments are quite enough to comfortably accommodate a person of almost any build.

Although the rear seats can accommodate 3 people, only two passengers will be really comfortable here, the reason for this is not only a rather massive transmission tunnel, but also a small margin of legroom along the length.

Despite the rather modest dimensions of the cabin, the volume of the trunk is one of the class leaders and is an impressive 430 liters (for the station wagon) and 292 liters (for the hatchback body), which, if necessary, can be increased by folding the rear row backrests. It is also impossible to notice the presence of a small underground, where the stowaway is located, without which it is almost impossible to do in our latitudes. The presence of a deep threshold somewhat spoils the impression of the trunk, which somewhat complicates the loading of heavy and bulky items.

Specifications of the new Seat Ibiza 2016

Technical characteristics are where the main innovations of the car come in. As before, the entire powertrain lineup meets the latest environmental standards, in addition to which the manufacturer has equipped the car with a start / stop system, making the updated Ibiza even more economical.

The line of power units is presented:

  • Three one-liter gasoline engines ranging from 75 to 110 hp. depending on the considered modification;
  • 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine with a capacity of 150 hp, a feature of which was the emergence of an automatic shutdown system for some of the cylinders if the engine is used at low loads;
  • 1.4-liter diesel engine, the power of which, depending on the modification, can vary from 75 to 105 hp. According to official data, engines can be aggregated with a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 7-level "automatic" with DSG, although the latter will be offered exclusively with a 90-horsepower diesel engine or a 150-horsepower petrol engine.

The manufacturer emphasizes that the updated Ibiza can operate in three modes - "Comfort", "Normal" and "Sport", depending on the choice of which the suspension settings will change, as well as the reaction of the car to pressing the gas pedal.

Note that in the "Sport" mode, a 110-horsepower motor is enough to spur the driver to a rather aggressive driving style, and if we consider that 200 Nm of torque is available already starting from 2000 rpm, the hatchback may well compete in dynamics with more powerful neighbors in the city stream.

Acceleration from 0 to 100, depending on the power unit used, varies from 6.7 (for the charged Cupra modification) to 11.3 seconds. At the same time, the most anticipated liter 110-horsepower engine is able to accelerate the car to 100 in just 9.3 seconds, while the fuel consumption will not exceed 5 l / 100 km. However, a potential buyer should be prepared for the average fuel consumption to be about 5.5-6 liters.

Spanish designers have equipped the car with independent struts in front and a torsion beam at the rear, thanks to which the car behaves confidently both when driving in the city and moving along the highway. At the same time, the suspension is quite comfortable.

Safety

Given the class of the car, the updated Seat Ibiza is ready to offer potential buyers a good set of security systems:

  • driver monitoring system;
  • emergency braking system with an increased likelihood of a collision;
  • special assistant when reversing.

In addition, the car is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, a stabilization system, several airbags and pretensioner belts. It is impossible not to mention the presence of special IsoFix mountings, with the help of which the installation of a child seat in the passenger compartment of the car is carried out.

Seat Ibiza 2016 price and configuration

In the basic equipment, the updated Ibiza offers:

  • 2 airbags;
  • electric front windows;
  • heated side mirrors;
  • air conditioner;
  • interior fabric upholstery.

It is noteworthy that for the Russian market the model is additionally equipped with a "bad roads" package.

In more expensive equipment, the following are added to the list of basic equipment:

  • review camera when reversing;
  • advanced multimedia system with multi-touch display;
  • front row seat heating system and windscreen washer reservoir;
  • climate control;
  • package of external and internal styling;
  • rims in 16 inches.

In addition, the more expensive versions of the Ibiza are equipped with an electronic differential lock, which is especially useful in winter, as it allows you to get under way more confidently.

Let us dwell separately on the multimedia system, which, despite the relatively low cost of the car, offers a fairly mature sound quality. This is facilitated not only by the presence of 6 speakers, but also by significantly improved noise isolation.

The price of the basic version will start at 12 815 thousand euros (about 974 thousand rubles), while the maximum cost of a hatchback in the top configuration will cost the buyer almost 2.4 thousand more.

The cost is within the market, but it is worth remembering that for the same money, cars with a more modern appearance and offering an equally interesting price / quality ratio, and sometimes even an older list of additional equipment, are available to buyers.
