Exterior view of the new Volvo S90

Immediately you pay attention to the design, from the previous generation Volvo S90 there were only large forms of the sedan, the rest of everything was completely changed beyond recognition. The front part of the car in the area of the lattice is "chopped", all parts are located vertically relative to the ground. That said, the aerodynamics of the car weren't the top priority for the engineers.

Slightly lower on the bumper, the designers placed a headlight washer, under them are two holes for the location of sensors and sensors, with chrome inserts in a circle. The lowermost part consists of a splitter, on the sides there are LED fog lights, and in the middle there are horizontal stripes with sensors for different systems.

The designers made the hood of the Volvo S90 sedan curved with the repetition of the contour of the radiator grille and bumper. Its shapes are transmitted from the front to the rear optics. At the front, the car is austere and elegant, incorporating many modern technologies.

The side section of the new Volvo S90 is not particularly distinctive. But despite the fact that the sedan is made according to the latest technology, the door handles were left with a classic mechanism. Although many talk and imagine concepts with touch-sensitive electronic pens. The designers installed a chrome edging around the glass, and a chrome strip at the bottom of the doors. The side rear-view mirror was located on the door, and not in the corner of the side window. A turn repeater and a side camera were installed in the mirror.

As for the rear, there are slight coincidences with the previous generation, this is an elongated rear optics located both on the body and on the trunk lid. In the center of the boot lid there is a Volvo logo. The optics itself is made on the basis of LEDs. The rear bumper is extended and thus makes a small step for the trunk. At the very bottom of the bumper is a black diffuser with two chrome tailpipes.

The nice thing is that the fuel tank, mufflers or other parts of the chassis and suspension do not look out from under the bumper. The roof of the Volvo S90 is standard with a hatch in the front, and a shark fin antenna is installed behind.

With this description, the dimensions of the sedan are:

  • length 4963 mm;
  • width 2019 mm;
  • height 1443 mm;
  • wheelbase 2941 mm.

Any configuration is designed for 5 passengers, the trunk volume is 383 liters, and the fuel tank is 55 liters. This entire set will be fitted on 18 ″ alloy wheels, and 19 ″ wheels will be installed at an additional cost.

The new Volvo S90 will be available in colors in:

  • black;
  • snow white;

Metallic:

  • Navy blue;
  • White;
  • light gray;
  • dark grey;
  • black;
  • sand;
  • gray-blue.

As you can see, the color options will be strict, without bright yellows, greens or reds. In turn, this underlines the class of the Volvo S90 and its severity.

Interior of the new Volvo S90

The interior of the Volvo S90 is really thought out as much as possible, not only for comfort and design, but also for the safety of the driver and passengers. On the front, the first thing that catches your eye is the large 9.3-inch touchscreen display. Most of the car's functions are concentrated in it, which can be easily adjusted at will. At the bottom of the display of the new S90 is the climate control menu, in contrast to the display itself, this part of the menu is constantly in active mode.

On the sides of the display are unusually long and large openings for air supply, and under the display there is a small control panel with emergency stop buttons, audio controls, heated seats and glass. The driver's part is really thought out as much as possible so as not to reach for the necessary buttons and levers. According to the innovations, the dashboard is made on the basis of a display instead of analog gauges. There is a speedometer on the left, and a tachometer on the right, but at the request of the driver, the location and color on the dashboard can be changed, thanks to the already wired samples.

The steering wheel of the new S90 is made in classic Volvo style, with two horizontal spokes and one vertical. The logo of the Volvo company was placed in the middle. On the horizontal spokes, there are touch-sensitive buttons for multimedia control.

At the very top, on the front panel, the speakers of the audio system are located as an indicator of quality. To the right of the driver's seat, the designers placed the automatic transmission lever, next to the function control menu buttons, an electronic handbrake. It is interesting to note the automatic transmission handle, it can be either standard black or transparent (many say that the transparent handle was made of crystal).

Inserts made of natural wood or polished aluminum will be located throughout the interior of the car. The front seats of the Volvo S90 are made in a strict sporty style, the full electric drive for adjustment will easily adapt to any passenger, the head restraints can also be adjusted. For the T5 Inscription, the front seats with the function of ventilation and adjustment of the side parts of the backrest (Power Side Bolsters). On the dividing console between the front seats, for the rear passengers, there is a small touchscreen on which you can select the desired temperature and heating (cooling) of the rear seats.

The rear seats are designed for three passengers, but the head restraints are located only for two. A comfortable fit and adjustment of the seats will allow you to drive comfortably for hundreds of kilometers without stopping.

By color and finish, the salon can be divided into:

quality leather

  • black;
  • cream;
  • white.

perforated leather

  • black;
  • cream;
  • white with black accents.

The designers did not regret making the salon as high quality as possible using expensive materials. The interior of the car will really amaze even the most demanding buyer. You can talk for a very long time about how and what the interior of the new Volvo S90 is filled with, but the main details are given above.

Specifications of the new S90

Looking at the hood of the new Volvo S90, you immediately realize that underneath is an impressive engine. Both gasoline and diesel engines will be available to the buyer.

To begin with, we will consider gasoline turbocharged engines, they will be two-liter and 4-cylinder, for the Volvo S90 T5 the unit will be able to produce 249 hp, and for the S90 T6 it will give out 320 horses. This difference is due to the different drive. For the S90 T5, the engine will be paired with an automatic eight-speed gearbox with front-wheel drive, for the S90 T6, the drive will be all-wheel drive with a similar gearbox.

Consider the parameters for the Volvo S90 T5, the maximum torque is 5500 rpm. Fuel consumption will be 9.8 liters. in the city and 6.72 liters. outside the city for 100 km. Acceleration to 100 km / h will take 6.7 seconds, which is a bit too much for such a sedan. But let's not forget that the Volvo S90 was counting on comfort, not speed. The maximum speed is 210 km / h.

As for the second petrol unit Volvo S90 T6, its torque will be 5700 rpm. Accordingly, fuel consumption will increase, in the city it will be 11.2 liters, and outside the city 7.35 l / 100 km. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 5.1 seconds, which is 1.6 seconds. faster than the S90 T5. The maximum speed remains the same.

The third engine option is the diesel one in the Volvo S90 D5. The volume of the diesel engine is 2 liters, and the power is 235 horses, the maximum torque is 480 Nm (4000 rpm). The engine will be paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h will take 7.3 seconds. The drive will be full, that is, 4WD. Fuel consumption will be 4.8 l / 100 km.

For European versions, the same unit with 190 hp will also be available, acceleration to a hundred will take 8.2 seconds, and the torque is 400 Nm.

In addition to the Volvo S90 engines listed above, there will be another unique gasoline T8 TwinEngine. This is a hybrid vehicle configuration equipped with two types of engine with a total power of 410 hp. As the engineers promise, the consumption of such a complete set of Volvo will be 1.9 l / 100 km, and on an electronic charge it will be enough to drive 50 km. It will be possible to charge such a hybrid from a regular power grid. What overclocking parameters the company does not suggest, but judging from everything faster than 5.1 s.

The SPA suspension and chassis are already known to us from the Volvo XC90 crossover, which means that the quality will be reliable firsthand. It is worth considering that each engine will be available in three configurations for the body. Volvo has never limited the customer in the functions of the car.

Volvo safety system

It's no secret that Volvo cars are recognized as the safest cars worldwide. Engineers have not spared the new S90, introducing the maximum set of auxiliary safety features.

First of all, these Volvo cars are famous for the number of airbags both inside and outside. Inside, engineers, in addition to the standard passenger and driver airbags, have introduced leg airbags (under the dashboard). Curtain pillows were installed along the entire perimeter to protect against side impact. In other words, the driver and passengers of the new Volvo S90 are completely packed in airbags, thereby maximizing protection. It is worth noting the presence of an emergency stop system in case of an accident. Shade curtains for side windows.

The windshield is fenced off by two airbags, inside and outside. Inside to protect driver and passenger. Volvo's external airbag is largely designed to protect pedestrians in a collision, a development that has been introduced since 2012.

In addition to passive safety systems, the presence of active ones is distinguished.

The Volvo S90 comes standard with:

  • emergency braking;
  • adaptive fog lights;
  • adaptive front optics;
  • navigation system;
  • road surface control system;
  • tire pressure monitoring;
  • all-round cameras.

For an additional fee, you can install:

  • adaptive cruise control with autopilot;
  • lane control system;
  • control of blind spots;
  • distance control system.

With innovations, we can note the presence of a system for detecting animals, pedestrians, cyclists. Once detected, the information is displayed on the windscreen thanks to the head-up display. Upon finding and recognizing an object, the system will instantly alert the driver when safety is approaching. Run-off Road Mitigation will take the Volvo S90 off the side of the road in an emergency by turning the steering wheel in the right direction and slowing down, but still the driver's actions will take priority.

Of the protection systems, one can note the presence of an immobilizer, a standard alarm. Now you do not need to remember whether the car was set on the alarm or not, if you move away with the key fob more than 10 meters, the system will automatically lock all the doors.

The manufacturer installs a special child seat according to the standard, which speaks of the next desire of the engineers to protect the passengers of the Volvo S90 as much as possible.

More well-known systems include parking sensors, all-round visibility of the car, and driver fatigue control. This is not a complete list yet, as with the addition of new innovations, Volvo could bring them to the S90 model.
