At the Ukraine-EU summit, the project "Improving road safety" was considered, as a result of which the European Bank decided to allocate 75 million euros to the cities of Ukraine. euro to the cities of Ukraine.

A regular Ukraine-EU summit took place in Brussels on July 9. The heads of state and government discussed the situation on the state of the roads in Ukraine. Thus, it was decided to sign an agreement in which the European Investment Bank (EIB) undertakes to allocate 75 million euros to the largest cities in Ukraine to improve the condition and safety of highways.

In addition to all this, according to the External Investment Plan, financial assistance is provided for the creation, development and monitoring of the implementation of the project to improve road safety. Thus, Ukraine will receive additional funds in the amount of 4.25 million euros.

The summit was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze. She stated that the implementation of the project will affect such large cities as Kiev, Kharkov, Lvov, Odessa and Dnipro.


The head of the organization for the implementation of this program is the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine. The local authorities of the 5 selected cities, in turn, are obliged to distribute the received financial assistance to improve the safety of Ukrainian roads. We are talking about the creation and construction of completely new modernized transport interchanges, the improvement of road infrastructure, as well as the re-equipment of hazardous areas at intersections. The European Bank also requires equipping the roads of Ukraine with a specialized system of pedestrian and bicycle paths. Speed ​​limiting near school and residential areas, as well as the creation and use of information technology to monitor road safety in Ukraine is another of the provisions of the project.

All these improvements will significantly reduce the level of accidents, injuries and deaths on the roads, as well as increase the level of comfort of movement.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that today the roads in Ukraine are in a terrible state. So, deaths in road accidents on the roads of Ukraine occur 3 times more often than in Europe. Improving this situation and improving the road infrastructure is a priority for the country. Also, this project will allow the country to take the path towards creating an environmentally friendly transport interchange and systems, which in turn will lead to rapid economic development.
